Navy SEAL book excerpts claim Osama bin Laden was unarmed

The controversial book written by a member of the U.S. Navy SEAL Team 6 who took part in the raid that killed Osama bin Laden doesn't come out until Tuesday, but excerpts from the story have now been published.

The U.K.'s Sun printed the prologue of the book, "No Easy Day," along with several excerpts in the newspaper's Sunday edition. In them, the SEAL--who used the pen name Mark Owen--recounts the harrowing Black Hawk helicopter crash that preceded the May 2, 2011 raid on the terror leader's hideout:

We were now less than a minute from the compound. Intelligence said our target was there, but it didn't matter--whoever was in there was about to have a bad night. ... As the helicopter attempted to climb it took a violent right turn, spinning 90 degrees. I could feel the tail kick to the left. It caught me by surprise and I struggled to find a handhold inside the cabin to keep from sliding out the door.

In excerpts published by the New York Post, Owen recalls hearing the shots that killed bin Laden and the graphic scene that followed:

We were less than five steps from getting to the top when I heard shots. ... In his death throes, he was still twitching and convulsing. Another assaulter and I trained our lasers on his chest and fired several rounds. The bullets tore into him, slamming his body into the floor until he was motionless. ... Lying in front of me was the reason we had been fighting for the last decade. It was surreal trying to clean the blood off the most wanted man in the world so that I could shoot his photo.

The Post's excerpts included more details from inside the compound:

"Through the sweat running down my face and the grit in my eyes from the rotor wash, I could just make out the figure of a woman in the green glow of my night-vision goggles," Owen writes.

They had been warned to expect suicide vests, even on women.

"She had something in her arms, and my finger slowly started applying pressure to my trigger. I could see our lasers dancing around her head. It would only take a split second to end her life if she was holding a bomb."

The Post also printed the part that's drawn the most pre-publication attention--that bin Laden was unarmed when he was shot:

Bin Laden had in his room on a shelf above the door an AK-47 and a Makarov pistol. But they were both empty.

"He had no intention of fighting," Owen writes.

The Pentagon has threatened legal action against the author and Penguin, the book's publisher, saying the former SEAL Team 6 member was "in material breach of nondisclosure agreements he signed with the U.S. government."

Lawyers for the author and publisher say the book "did not disclose any material that would breach his agreements or put his former comrades at risk."

The latest excerpts come on the day "60 Minutes" is scheduled to air an interview with Owen, who disguised him with makeup "for his own safety," CBS said.

While CBS chose not to, other media outlets--including the Associated Press--have revealed his real name.

Obama thanks troops who served in Iraq

WASHINGTON (AP) ? President Barack Obama is thanking troops for their service as he marks the second anniversary of the end of combat operations in Iraq.

He says he?ll work to ensure that soldiers remain well-equipped and he?s promising to assist in their transition to civilian life.

In his weekly radio and Internet address Saturday, the president stuck to the message he conveyed Friday to troops in Fort Bliss, Texas. He said that as the nation turns from war ?it?s time to do some nation-building here at home.?

Republican challenger Mitt Romney said nothing about the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan when he addressed his party?s national convention this past week.

Republican Rep. Steve Scalise of Louisiana used the weekly GOP address to praise American resilience in the face of Hurricane and Tropical Storm Isaac. He also reiterated Republican demands for extending Bush-era tax cuts.

Mastering list building is one of the most rewarding skills you will ever acquire in online marketing. Having your own list will pay you for months, even years to come. Many people start building their list in a chosen niche but quit too early, meaning they don?t get enough momentum going to make their efforts immensely profitable.

The first thing you have to do in list building is to select a niche that you want to get into. Again, you can build a list in any niche, so it doesn?t need to be online marketing. You can start building your list in cooking, gardening, travelling or even scuba diving if you wish to. Let me give you a couple tips to help you build a targeted and highly profitable list, starting today:

As said, you can create your own product which will take some time or purchase a PLR (Private Label Right) Product. Tip 2) Set up your autoresponder campaign, starting with sending out your free product and following up with different product promotions and more free content.

I definitely recommend that you set up your marketing campaign for at least the next 30 days. This will give you some air to breathe and you can always build out your campaign within the next 30 days.

The first email should send your lead to the download page to your free offer that you market on your squeeze page. The follow up messages should be a decent mixture of product recommendations and more free reports.
You need to make sure that you give a great amount of value on the front end for free to awaken people to buy your products or affiliate programs later on.

Tip 3) Start driving continuous traffic to your squeeze page to eventually generate 50 to 100 leads a day. If you manage to generate 5 leads a day, you can most certainly also generate 50 leads a day but that comes down to you.

Start using different traffic generation methods, including guest blogging, PPC, SEO, forum marketing, free reports, social media, JV giveaways, article marketing, video marketing and other forums of JVs to drive more and more traffic to your squeeze page(s).

Generating traffic is an ongoing process that will bring ongoing leads, if you don?t stop doing it!

These are really the fundamentals of list building and if implemented properly can create a massive residual income stream.

Download Skype 2.9 for Android with Improved Bluetooth Support

The code-savvy team of engineers at Skype have a new update ready for Android customers. Skype 2.9 arrives with improved Bluetooth support, as well as with the usual bag of fixes for some known issues.

Raul Liive blogging for Skype notes that Bluetooth devices connected to Android phones will exhibit improved audio quality, as well as reduced delay.

?In the new release, we have improved our support for Bluetooth devices improving audio quality, reducing delay, fixing some issues and ensuring that Bluetooth icon info is always accurate,? says Liive.

Although improving Bluetooth seems to have been the centerpiece of this release, the bug fixes incorporated in Skype 2.9 for Android are just as important, if not more so.

For instance, on some devices running older versions of Skype, contacts were not synced with the device's contact list. Now they are.

In some instances, Skype stalled while responding to a contact search request, or was unable to open received files. These errors have been corrected as well.

Skype would sometimes log off for no reason and video calls on some Android 2.2 devices were not working. Both these issues are addressed in Skype 2.9.

Two more video bugs are documented in the ?fixed issues? section in the release notes. On some devices, video was blurrier than on previous versions of Skype. Samsung Infuse in particular exhibited an extra bug ? the image was rotated by 180 degrees.

Finally, on a few devices with Qualcomm chipsets the video looked black or green. All these nasty bugs are now gone, says Liive.

As usual, some issues linger still. Audio call volume could be low on some devices, and video could be upside down on a few others, according to the documentation for Skype 2.9. For this particular issue, users can control the Video Rotation in the settings panel.

When switching incoming and outgoing video display, video is turned off in some instances. Finally, users may see a black picture when returning to video call either from phone call or after sending Skype to the background. Simply restart the Skype call to work around this bug, says Liive.
